Nebraska football coach Scott Frost thanks Ohio State football for saving the Big Ten season

Scott Frost and Nebraska football are thankful Ohio State football wanted to have a season.

Though Frost might be a little salty about his Nebraska Cornhuskers having to play the No. 5 Ohio State Buckeyes in their season opener in The Horseshoe, he appreciates the efforts The Ohio State University played in getting the Big Ten football season back on track. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the University of Iowa were also big contributors to the season’s return.

"“I’ve got to give most of the credit for this to Ohio State,” said Frost. “We might’ve been one of the sounding guns in this that we’re saying we want to play (but) I don’t think it would’ve gotten done without their doctor taking the leading, figuring out a way to present it to the presidents to get football back.”"

"“I’m going to root for them in every single game expect this first one, because I’m grateful to them going shoulder to shoulder to get (Big Ten football) back.”"

Ohio State has an incredible shot at winning a national championship in 2020

Even though Cornhuskers football is absolutely everything in Nebraska, it doesn’t have the same gravitas of Buckeyes football in Big Ten country. Nebraska used to dominate the Big Eight/Big 12 before leaving for the Big Ten in the early 2010s. That move looks to have been a regrettable one for both parties, but they too were a big reason Big Ten football is back on beginning this weekend.

Though Nebraska should push for bowl eligibility this year, the biggest thing helping them have a season is what could be in store for Ryan Day’s program in Columbus. The Buckeyes stand a great shot at going 9-0 this Big Ten year and winning the conference title bout yet again. If they go undefeated or drop one regular-season game, the Buckeyes will make the College Football Playoff.

To let a potential playoff season go to waste for Ohio State, and to some extent with the Penn State Nittany Lions, the Big Ten had to be darn sure they couldn’t have a college football season in any capacity. After re-evaluating the coronavirus testing protocols, the Big Ten’s season will be back on. Frost may hate playing Ohio State right away, but it’s better than not playing anyone.

Without Ohio State adamantly wanting a Big Ten season, then there probably wouldn’t be one.
