Cheers to you Allen Robinson

Nicknames are a massive part of an NFL player’s persona. People rarely call him Odell Beckham Jr., but rather “OBJ” for short. Tom Brady still goes by birth name, but others around the world have dubbed him the “G.O.A.T”.

Well, Allen Robinson wants to go by something other than “A-Rob”, but the new name might surprise you.

During Chicago’s Wednesday’s media outing, the Bears wide receiver told Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times, he prefers to go by “Old Fashioned” from now on. No, that’s not a joke, he reiterated that this is what the fans of the Windy City better call him for the remainder of this career.

For those spirit aficionado’s, an old fashioned is one of the more preferred drinks around the United States. Made with a based whiskey, simple syrup, bitters and usually an orange zest, the flavors combine for a smooth aftertaste to calm the strong aroma of the liquor found below.

All those traits really could best describe one of the NFL’s more underrated targets.

Robinson is a smooth route-runner, cut with a mean bite of physicality after the catch. His hands are strong, leading to his career 56.5 percent catch rate, to go along with his durability each season. And the zest? Whenever he finds the end zone, you’re in for a treat from one of his famous celebrations.

Robinson’s value should only skyrocket after playing with Christian Hackenberg, Blake Bortles, Mitchell Trubisky and Nick Foles as his quarterbacks since college. Since being drafted in 2014, the 27-year-old had tallied four seasons of over 700 receiving yards, 55 plus catches and at least four touchdowns.

Imagine what he could do with a capable quarterback?
Entering a contract year, Robinson has started hot as the Bears’ top weapon. In six games, he’s finished with 40 catches for 474 yards and two touchdowns.

The Bears will face off against the Los Angeles Rams on Monday night.
