Steelers must lean on Ben Roethlisberger to beat the Titans
By John Buhler
Ben Roethlisberger has to be a reason the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Tennessee Titans.
The biggest game of the Week 7 NFL slate will take place on Sunday afternoon along the Banks of the Cumberland River between a pair of undefeated teams in the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Tennessee Titans. The winner of this game may be in the driver’s seat of the AFC. For the Steelers to win on the road in Nashville, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will need to have a big game.
The Fantasy Footballers contemplated if Roethlisberger will throw for 250 yards or more in this high-profile AFC game. While Andy Holloway thinks he’ll come up short of that passing threshold for the fifth time in six games this season, his colleagues Jason Moore and Mike Wright are big fans of Big Ben slinging it en route to the Steelers moving to 6-0 over Tennessee in Nashville.
Check out The Fantasy Footballers for all their advice.
The only time Roethlisberger has thrown for over 250 yards in a game this season came back in Week 2’s home win over the Denver Broncos. Pittsburgh won the game 26-21, which is the Steelers’ narrowest margin of victory this season at five points. Though Pittsburgh is slightly better than Tennessee, Derrick Henry and the Titans offense will challenge the Steelers defense.
The Tennessee Titans are capable of keeping pace with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Tennessee’s quarterback/running back tandem of Ryan Tannehill and Henry are arguably the very best in the league. Tannehill’s career renaissance in Nashville is no fluke. While it might be propped up a bit by a bona fide bell-cow back in Henry, as well as the brilliant play-calling of offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, he leads his team into the end zone on every red zone possession.
While the Steelers’ front-seven is arguably the best possession group in the entire league through six weeks, the Titans will be by far and away Pittsburgh’s most formidable challenger. Good luck trying to slow down the battering ram that is Henry completely. Doing so might allow Tannehill to move the sticks aerially to the likes of wide receiver A.J. Brown and tight end Jonnu Smith.
So for the Steelers to get to 6-0, Roethlisberger will likely need to complete 28-of-35 passes for over 250 yards, two touchdowns and no picks to hold off the pesky Titans. Pittsburgh’s identity is with its defensive front-seven, but Sunday afternoon is a terrific opportunity to show America that the Steelers can win multiple ways, while demonstrating that Roethlisberger is as good as new.
