Cam Newton had a very bad game against the 49ers, but it wasn’t as bad as this Jeff Garcia take.

Cam Newton is getting criticized from almost every angle after an extremely concerning 33-6 Patriots loss against the 49ers on Sunday afternoon, but if there’s one opinion you didn’t expect to hear, it was that of former 49er quarterback Jeff Garcia.

The four-time Pro Bowler went on the NBC Bay Area postgame show to give what was quite possibly the worst take of the day on Cam and the Patriots’ loss.

Footage of Garcia’s rant was scrubbed from the network’s Twitter account but had the caption ‘Jeff Garcia is tired of Cam Newton’s antics’. Those antics? The way Cam Newton dresses.

No, seriously.

“You get yanked in the second half, there’s nothing good going your way. Why are you dressing like that to bring more attention to yourself?” Garcia said on the broadcast. “This just goes back a couple of years of watching this guy, and seeing him at the podium yet what he’s doing on the field does not translate to being that guy.”

When another host said Joe Namath had a fur coat at his press conference, Garcia commented “When you predict you’re going to win a Super Bowl and go out and do it, wear whatever the hell you want. But right now I’m not buying it.”

Garcia seems to believe that Cam’s notorious gameday ensembles are cutting into his pre-game preparation as if that makes any sense. It looks as though Garcia had been sitting on this caption for quite some time and finally got the Cam Newton numbers he needed to let it fly. He probably should have kept this one in the chamber. Reads just a tad bit cringeworthy.

Cam is undoubtedly struggling with the Patriots, so much so, that many are questioning if the starting position will still be his moving forward. The Pats now sit at a shocking 2-4 and are just above the awful New York Jets in the AFC East. Belichick has confirmed that Newton is the guy moving forward, probably because Jarrett Stidham is his backup, and Brian Hoyer, who replaced Newton in Week 4 is listed as out on the depth chart.

The Pats and Cam Newton will look to bounce back next week against a 5-2 Buffalo Bills squad that is playing like they have nothing to lose. We’ll look to see if Cam makes it to the end of that matchup or if Belichick decides to pull the plug.

Where’s TB12 when you need him? Oh right, Tampa Bay.
