Yankees trade rumors, Miguel Andujar

2. Miguel Andujar

Andujar’s quest to become the AL Rookie of the Year feels like a decade ago. He lost almost his entire 2019 campaign due to injury and, perhaps more concerningly, failed to make an impact in 2020 due to his inability to produce at the plate. It’s easy to see why his stock with the Yankees is on the decline.

Many observers would consider him the most likely Yankee to be on the move this offseason. The reason he only finds himself at No. 2 on this list is because of his limited value to other teams. No one is going to rush to acquire a slumping hitter with no defensive position. The Yankees might try to tout him as a budding offensive star, but don’t expect many teams to bite on that type of narrative.

Instead, Andujar might be offloaded by the Yankees for a lottery ticket or two. In other words, he will not bring back a major league regular in a trade. If the team wants to move him, they’ll have to accept a few prospects that are years away from making an impact in the Bronx.

The best plan forward for the Yankees might be to allow Andujar the chance to showcase his skills for other teams in Spring Training. A hot start could help him rebuild his value to the point where the Yankees would see real value in dealing him. He continues to be a major headache for Cashman and the front office.
