The Green Bay Packers are going to be without Aaron Jones on Sunday against the Houston Texans.

Well, so much for Green Bay’s running game.

With the Packers traveling down to Houston for a showdown against the 1-5 Texans, the team will be without running back Aaron Jones. Jones, who this past week suffered a calf injury during practice, was a game-time decision and now will miss his first start of the 2020 season.

This will be Green Bay’s second significant loss of the week on offense. On Saturday, the team announced that left tackle David Bakhtiari would also be inactive this week. Bakhtiari left last week’s loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers early with a chest injury and did not travel with the team on Saturday. He will miss his first game since 2017 and just the seventh of his eight-year standout career.

Jones has been essential to the Packers’ success thanks to his underrated dual-threat mobility. A top player in the Green Bay’s system, the former sixth-round pick has tallied 389 rushing yards, 169 receiving yards and seven total touchdowns to begin the 2020 campaign.

Expect a big day from Jamaal Williams

For Green Bay, this could be a glimpse into the future of life without No.33. Jones is entering a contract year and could earn top dollar after an impressive end to the 2019 season and a quality start to 2020. On Sunday, the team will rely heavily on Jamaal Williams and second-round pick A.J. Dillion to carry the workload.

Green Bay might be lucky that Jones is missing Sunday since the Texans have struggled to defend the run. Through their unlucky start, the team currently ranks dead last in run support, allowing an average of 177.1 yards per game. Between Williams and Dillion, the duo has combined for 197 yards and two touchdowns.

Next. Packers: It’s time to move on from defensive coordinator Mike Pettine. dark
