3 Dodgers players your team should trade for this Hot Stove season
1. Max Muncy
Max Muncy received a three-year extension this past offseason after making his first All-Star Game in 2019. Unfortunately, he struggled during the regular season with a slash line of .192/.331/.389.
Muncy is a dynamic player who can play all over the infield with his primary spot being at first base. A young player in Edwin Rios could be in line to take over at first if a team gives the Dodgers a good offer on Muncy.
The regular-season numbers were not great. It is also important to remember the sample size was smaller and the regular season was two months long. Muncy is also 30 years old and has the postseason experience to his name. His home run blast in Sunday’s Game 5 proved a bad stretch doesn’t define his entire year.
Muncy’s contract makes him an intriguing option for other teams, while the Dodgers could also move on to Rios or stay true to themselves and go spend on a different, younger first baseman.
Muncy will earn $9 million in 2021, $13 million in 2022, and has a $13 million team option in 2023. That is not crazy money for a player with a combined 10.0 WAR over the past three seasons. And if it’s not working out, that option can be declined after two years for a $1.5 million buyout.
There are several untouchable players on the Dodgers. Muncy is among those who teams should be calling about after showing off his talent in October.
