Week 8 of the NFL regular season is here. Keep a close eye on these five matchups as the most interesting battles of the weekend.

With every passing week of the NFL Schedule, professional football starts to feel a bit more normal. The fact that the conversation becomes less about COVID-19 and more about the product on the field is good for everyone’s emotional health.

Of course, fans of some teams are starting to deal with the harsh realization that their favorite franchise isn’t going to be playoff-bound in 2020. That’s offset by supporters of teams that now understand they are legitimate Super Bowl contenders.

Week 8 will continue to shed light on which teams fall into which category. Keep a close eye on these five matchups as the most intriguing battles of the slate.

5. Battle of the NFC Least

Just as highway drivers feel the need to slow down and look at the aftermath of car accidents, NFL fans enjoy a certain fascination with watching NFC East battles on a weekly basis. This week’s game pitting the Cowboys against the Eagles might be the pinnacle of that sort of rubbernecking.

Philadelphia comes in at 2-4-1 while Dallas sits at 2-4. That actually qualifies this game as a battle for the division crown. Neither team deserves to be in contention for a postseason berth, but someone in the NFC East is going to secure a home playoff game when all is said and done.

It’s hard to envision the Cowboys beating the Eagles without the services of Andy Dalton at quarterback. Even if Carson Wentz continues to struggle, he’s still far superior to Ben DiNucci or whoever Dallas scrounges up to start the game. Don’t expect anything resembling a pretty football game between these two teams on Sunday, but it could be fun to watch nonetheless.
