The Pacers are reportedly interested in Texans wideout Will Fuller, but Houston isn’t going to just give him away.

One thing is certain heading into the final week before the NFL trade deadline — the Green Bay Packers need a No.2 target. According to The Athletic’s Aaron Reiss, the Packers have an interest in Houston Texans wide receiver Will Fuller. Fuller, who’s playing on the final year of his rookie contract, has seen a career year in 2020. Finally healthy, the former first-round pick has tallied 31 catches for 450 yards and scored five touchdowns for the 1-6 Texans.

Houston has to consider trading away talent to bring in a haul of picks. The team is without a first or second-round selection in the 2021 NFL Draft after trading them away in the deal to land tackle Laremy Tunsil before the 2019 season.

How does this work for Green Bay?

Green Bay’s offense has played well in an MVP-season for Aaron Rodgers, but that doesn’t mean they’re without faults. During the team’s 35-20 victory over Houston last Sunday, Rodgers threw for 283 yards, but 196 went to top-target Devante Adams. And even though the 36-year-old threw four touchdowns against the woeful Texans secondary, two came from inside the 5-yard mark.

The Packers are missing a speed element to complete the overall offensive arsenal. Adams provides size while tight end Robert Tonyan has been effective in a minimal role. Both Jamaal Williams and Aaron Jones complement each other’s skills, but the limitations on the outside actually see Jones expanding his role in the passing game.

Fuller, who when healthy has been a fine vertical option, should be a top priority if the Packers are looking to add talent at the position. His 4.33 speed has allowed him to finish with at an average of 13.4 yards per catch each season. And although he wouldn’t garner a first-round pick, desperate teams could maybe have him with a second-round selection as a starting point of negotiations.

Packers coach Matt LaFleur commented on Fuller’s ability to take the top off a defense and his status as a true No.1 target prior to Sunday’s showdown.

“I’m really happy to see him have success. I hope he doesn’t have as much success on Sunday versus us, then pick up after that. I’m a big Will Fuller fan,” LaFleur said according to reporters.

The NFL trade deadline is set for Nov. 3. Only time will tell if the Packers help Rodgers in what could be his final chance to win a Lombardi Trophy with the organization.
