If the New York Giants are going to sell, Golden Tate should be worth a silver penny offer

The New York Giants are stuck between a rock and a hard place. As the standings currently sit, New York is a game out of first place in the NFC East. They also are a game away from cementing their status as a top-five pick next April.

Monday’s outing against the Buccaneers all but sets which path the team is leaning towards near the deadline. If there’s sellers, Golden Tate should be moved immediately. Although no longer the limber slot target of yesteryears, he still is a capable No.3 option to any offense trying to improve their passing game.

It’s tough to imagine what exactly the market is for aging receivers with larger contracts, but Week 7 flashed potential of Tate’s upside on a team where’s he’s limited. After three seasons of 1,000-yard work, someone is going to at least fish an offer out there to see if anyone nibbles.

Which teams should trade for WR Golden Tate at the NFL deadline?

15. NFC. New Orleans Saints. 3. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. South

The good news for New Orleans is Michael Thomas officially returned to practice this week. The bad news is the offense still has taken a step back without him. Relying on Emmanuel Sanders and Tre’Quan Smith is a tall task, even if they’ve done well as No’s. 2 and 3 respective weapons.

But Sanders is on IR with COVID-19, and Tre’Quan Smith is not a No. 1 receiver.

The 32-year-old Tate currently has 20 receptions for 195 yards and a score through six games in 2020. New Orleans also would be able to retain his rights through 2022 if he perform well down in the Bayou. Best of all, if he struggles, there’s an option at the end of the season, meaning his rental was put to good use if New Orleans ends their season down in Tampa Bay.

The cap-strapped Saints are hemorrhaging money with the recent signings. The biggest question would be if Tate or Sanders could adapt to playing on the outside while splitting reps in the slot. At worst, New Orleans adds a weapon to an offense looking for another talent to bolster Drew Brees’ stat line in what likely is his final season.
