Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins commits to Georgia football ahead of the Kentucky game on Saturday.

Georgia football just landed the 18th recruit for its 2021 class in Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins.

Ingram-Dawkins is a four-star defensive tackle prospect out of Gaffney, South Carolina. At 6-foot-5, 298 pounds, the Georgia Bulldogs earned his commitment over the North Carolina Tar Heels, the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Tennessee Volunteers. Georgia has the sixth-best recruiting class in 2021 and is within two points of becoming the No. 4 overall class in this cycle.

“They just recruited me real hard and showed me love ever since they came in for my recruitment,” said Ingram-Dawkins. “I’m close with Coach (Kirby) Smart, Coach (Dan) Lanning, Coach (Tray) Scott and Coach (Glenn) Schumann. It’s very tight. Always a great conversation.”

When asked why he picked Georgia over those three other Power 5 schools, “it was just their scheme,” he said. “My (playing) style fits in their defense. I fit well in their program. Watching them play their first couple games really opened my eyes and how great their defense was and how it’s going to be in the future.”

Georgia’s climb from the teens and approach towards the top five has been both impressive, yet expected. The Dawgs routinely get top-tier recruiting classes under Kirby Smart, and it was only a matter of time before they made the push heading into the first national signing day. Eventually, Georgia will get back to the national title, which is certainly what Ingram-Dawkins is hoping for.

“They’re getting better every year. It’s great right now and it’s only going to get better.” While it might be too much of a climb to surpass either the Alabama Crimson Tide or the Ohio State Buckeyes and get into the top two, Georgia has the recruiting momentum to get into the top three, possibly leapfrogging the LSU Tigers, the Oregon Ducks and the Clemson Tigers in the process.

It’s not how you start, but how you finish, especially when it comes to college football recruitment.
