3 impactful players the Los Angeles Dodgers will lose in free agency
2. Alex Wood
Alex Wood was already let go by the Dodgers once. He initially joined the team during the 2015 season and was traded to the Cincinnati Reds following the 2018 season in the big deal that sent Yasiel Puig to Ohio.
He found his way back to Los Angeles on a one-year deal in 2020 and did not have much success. Wood made two starts and nine total appearances, finishing with a 6.39 ERA. His rough start put him in the bullpen and he actually did have two scoreless outings in the World Series.
But the rotation is set and the Dodgers may not want to pay Wood to be a reliever after he was one by necessity this past season. He will turn 30 this winter and no longer looks like he has the stuff that made him an All-Star in 2017. That year he went 16-3 with a 2.72 ERA.
There is the possibility of Wood being a free agent and coming back to the Dodgers on a minor league deal if there are no takers. However, him on the market should mean there is at least one time that wants to see if he can bring his old magic to their club.
