Reinforcements are on the way for Oklahoma football with Ronnie Perkins and Rhamondre Stevenson returning from suspension.

It’s been a long odyssey to get back to the football field for a pair of Oklahoma football standouts but Ronnie Perkins and Rhamondre Stevenson are back for Saturday night’s game vs. Texas Tech.

The news was reported by News 9 Sports and later confirmed by Jason Kersey of The Athletic.

The pair has been suspended since the Peach Bowl in last season’s College Football Playoff stemming from failed drug tests. Their return should be a big boost for the Sooners who play the Red Raiders tonight and need to win out in all likelihood to win another Big 12 championship.

Oklahoma football gets Perkins, Stevenson back from suspension

The 6-foot-3, 251-pound defensive end, Perkins, could be the biggest impact on an Oklahoma defense that has been suspect all season. However, the Sooners had their best defensive showing and effort in last week’s win over TCU. His presence off the edge should go a long way toward boosting the pass rush and helping draw attention away from the other members of the front. He had 13.5 tackles for loss and six sacks last season for Oklahoma.

Stevenson will compete for carries with T.J. Pledger and freshman star Seth McGowan in the Oklahoma backfield. A bruising tailback at 236 pounds, Stevenson had 515 yards and six touchdowns last season while leading the team with 8.05 yards per rush.
