Kellen Mond is the new Texas A&M record-holder in career yardage.

When it comes to the Texas A&M Aggies, one player stood above the rest in program history, and that was Johnny Manziel. The man dubbed “Johnny Football” lit up the college football world in 2012 and 2013, with many expecting him to translate that success into the NFL. That never happened, but you can never take away what he accomplished in an Aggies uniform. But, one of his records is no longer his.

On Saturday, against Arkansas, Aggies quarterback Kellen Mond broke Manziel’s all-time total offense record after he connected with tight end Jalen Wydermyer for a 15-yard touchdown in the third quarter against the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Mond breaks another record as well

Mond’s historic night continued shortly afterward, as he became the first player in school history to accumulate over 10,000 yards of total offense. Meanwhile, Mond still has five more games to go in his senior season, so the numbers should continue to grow.

Mond finished with 260 yards passing and three touchdowns on 21-of-26 passing and added 32 rushing yards on six carries in the 42-31 win over Arkansas as No. 9 Texas A&M improved to 4-1.

It’s important to note that Manziel set the record after playing in just 26 games with the Aggies. Manziel tallied 7,820 passing yards and 2,169 rushing yards in his two seasons starting under center at College Station. That’s how ridiculous “Johnny Football” was when he took the field in the dominant SEC. It took a good seven years for his records to be finally be broken.

Regardless of how the 2020 campaign ends for Mond, he will forever be remembered as one of the most dynamic players in Texas A&M history.
