West Virginia football improves to 4-2 and very much alive to win the Big 12 championship.

Do not be shocked if Neal Brown‘s West Virginia football ends up winning the Big 12 this season.

Brown’s West Virginia Mountaineers dominated the No. 16 Kansas State Wildcats in Morgantown on Saturday afternoon, winning 37-10.

The ‘Eers improved to 4-2 on the campaign and 3-2 in Big 12 play. Though they have two conference losses, one is to the presumptive favorite to come out of the Big 12 in the Oklahoma State Cowboys and the other thanks to a dumb play vs. the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

If somebody else has to get to Arlington, why not West Virginia?

We are starting to see what made Brown successful in his previous post with the Troy Trojans. 2020 looks to be Brown’s “pop” year at West Virginia, which means the Mountaineers may end up being a ranked team this season. They do not have the head-to-head tiebreaker vs. the Pokes, so they’ll be rooting for Texas to upset them later today, or for them to lose to Oklahoma later this year, but West Virginia may be the team who faces them in the title bout.

With four games left this regular season, it is time for West Virginia to make its move to get to Arlington. The Mountaineers will be up against it come November. They have to face the Texas Longhorns in Austin, host the TCU Horned Frogs at home, host the Oklahoma Sooners at home and finish the regular season on the road vs. the Iowa State Cyclones in Ames.

Though TCU has largely fallen out of it, Texas, Oklahoma and Iowa State are still in the mix to get to the Big 12 title bout entering Week 9. West Virginia will probably have to win out to get to Arlington, but someone has to do it and face Oklahoma State with a New Year’s Six bowl on the line. The good news for West Virginia is the offense is excellent and the defense is improving.

Jarret Doege is looking like yet another Mountaineers signal-caller who can put up points and throw for yards. Having the ability to lean on Leddie Brown in the ground game gives the ‘Eers the balance they will need to contend with Oklahoma State in a potential rematch. The Big 12 picture may need a few weeks to get clearer, but West Virginia is not going away quietly just yet in 2020.

We cannot overstate how huge this blowout victory over Kansas State is for West Virginia in their pursuit of their first Big 12 title.
