Fantasy Football: 5 bold predictions for Week 9
By Dustin Baker
2. The Buffalo Bills find a way to put the clamps on D.K. Metcalf, a bit
No, D.K. Metcalf will not put up goose eggs. Hell, Seattle will probably find a way to win the game because they employ the NFL’s MVP frontrunner in Russell Wilson.
Yet, the Bills are a team that limits the deadliness of wide receivers. Again, this is not a prognostication that Buffalo will shut down Metcalf entirely. Think 13 PPR points or less. Buffalo gives up 18 PPR points to wideouts per game, which is the sixth-best in the business.
A little-announced fact is that Metcalf’s teammate, Tyler Lockett, actually tabulates more fantasy points than anybody in the NFL. That’s right, Locket leads the NFL in WR fantasy points (148.5) through eight weeks. When one thinks about Seattle’s receiving corps, the temptation is to be googly-eyed over Metcalf. More often than not, it is Lockett who racks up more points on Sundays.
Ergo, it is still smart to start Metcalf at WR1 or WR2. But that recent stratospheric production will probably be tamed in Week 9. The game is in Orchard Park, New York, so Seattle has a small road disadvantage, too.
Metcalf will make an impact on the game, but he will not score 40 PPR points as he did against the 49ers in Week 8 (or anywhere close to it).
