Florida Gators tight end Kyle Pitts is out for the rest of the Georgia game.

Kyle Pitts will not return for Florida after taking a brutal hit in the first half vs. Georgia.

Pitts is the best tight end in the nation and caught his eighth touchdown in the first half but won’t return for the Gators as they attempt to hold their lead vs. the Bulldogs.

Florida leads 41-21 early in the second half as they attempt to seize control of the SEC East and win their first game vs. rival Georgia for the first time in four years. Should Florida hold on and win the game, they’ll have an inside track on a potential showdown with Alabama in the SEC Championship Game. If Florida can win that game, they’ll be a virtual lock to make their first College Football Playoff.

Kyle Pitts left after taking this headshot from Georgia’s Lewis Cine

The CBS broadcast didn’t elaborate why Pitts won’t return, but the speculation is he suffered a concussion or at the least is being evaluated for a concussion after the hit from Georgia’s Lewis Cine that resulted in his ejection for targeting.

Florida plays Arkansas and former Gators starting quarterback Feleipe Franks next weekend followed by Vanderbilt. So if Pitts needs a little extra time to recover and get back to full health, Florida shouldn’t miss the All-American too much against those opponents. That said, they’ll prefer to get him back as soon as he’s able to return to the field. Quarterback Kyle Trask will certainly love having his top target back.
