Reggie Bush has a great reason why he thinks Alabama football is the best team in football.

Alabama football is the best team in college football, according to FOX’s Reggie Bush.

Even though the Alabama Crimson Tide are the No. 2 team in the land on their bye week, the former Heisman Trophy winner out of USC believes they are better than the No. 1 Clemson Tigers. There are plenty of reasons for somebody to feel this way, but we should not be surprised why Bush is this high on the Crimson Tide. He is a huge fan of their running back Najee Harris.

“I have to give the edge to Alabama and it’s because of the difference-maker they have in the backfield, Najee Harris,” said Bush. “You can turn around, hand him the football 25, 30, 35 times a game. Then in four-minute situations, when you need to control the time of possession when you need to control the clock, you can hand it to Najee Harris some more. What it comes down to for defensive coordinators, you have to dedicate eight sometimes nine guys in the box to slow down this run because (otherwise) it keeps your defense on the field, it wears them down. Then on the outside, (are) those receivers. Those first round draft pick receivers they have, they’re in man to man coverage a lot. That is very tough for a defense to guard for four quarters.”

Najee Harris is a factor most top-tier college teams do not have

Even though Alabama starting quarterback Mac Jones is the frontrunner to win the 2020 Heisman Trophy, he is aided by the talented bell-cow playing alongside him in Harris. While the Crimson Tide get a lot of love offensively because of its dynamic passing game, Alabama has the ability to grind out the opposition in the second half, thanks to the elite play of their star running back.

Clemson may have its own star running back in Travis Etienne, but if Bush is this adamant about Harris’ ability to emerge as a necessary bell-cow, he might be onto something. He may feel there will be a game where the high-octane Alabama offense will be tested in the passing game. If he thinks Harris is the difference-maker on the ground, then we might need to listen to Bush here.

We need to pay closer attention to what Harris does on the Alabama offense the rest of the way.
