3 reasons why Patrick Mahomes is the clear NFL MVP right now
Patrick Mahomes is already looking like the NFL MVP in 2020.
The Kansas City Chiefs were at risk of suffering a Super Bowl hangover in 2020. Instead, Patrick Mahomes’s squad is looking like a favorite to repeat as champions.
The 25-year-old appears to have no ceiling and is already on pace to break some of his own personal records. Remember, this is only his third full season as a starter.
Mahomes won the NFL MVP award in 2018 and looks poised to do the same again in 2020 based on his performance through the first nine games of the season. Let’s look at a few of the many reasons why award voters may already be checking off their ballots in November.
Here are three reasons Patrick Mahomes is already the MVP
3. TD/Int Ratio
Mahomes has already thrown 25 touchdowns in nine games. He threw 26 all of last season in his 14 games played. But the insanity doesn’t stop there.
The Chiefs signal-caller has also only thrown one lone interception so far this season. Think back to his 2018 MVP campaign. Mahomes finished with 50 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He may reach or eclipse that touchdown mark in 2020 and only have a handful of interceptions.
Mahomes is three touchdowns behind Russell Wilson for the league lead, but the Seattle Seahawks quarterback has eight interceptions. The only player comparable to Mahomes is Aaron Rodgers with his 24 touchdowns and two interceptions.
There is no reason to expect this pace to slow down. Mahomes has nine touchdowns in his past two games and may just be getting warmed up for the year.
