Tiger Woods got choked up talking about his 2019 Masters victory.

The 2020 Masters Tournament begins Thursday and it seems so long ago that golf fans took in Tiger Woods’ magical victory at the 2019 event.

Woods won at Augusta for the first time since 2005 and it was his first major victory since the 2008 U.S. Open. It was a long road back to glory and the legend of the game got choked up this week talking about that Sunday in 2019.

Tiger Woods looks to repeat at The Masters

Woods entered that Sunday two shots back of 54-hole leader Francesco Molinari. He was tied with Tony Finau and both were one shot ahead of Brooks Koepka. It was a tight field and the anticipation was high.

Then Molinari hit a ball into the water at the 12th and Woods capitalized. He showed up to the 18th tee with a two-shot lead and just needed a bogey to win his fifth green jacket. He got that bogey and a wave of relief seemed to pour over him as the celebration began.

The storyline was an emotional one as Woods hugged his kids following the win, mirroring the scene in 1997 when he won his first Masters and embraced his late father.

The 2019 win was a powerful one for Woods and it also showed he has some greatness left in the tank. It took a decade to win another major, but he remains a contender in 2020 and few would be shocked if he is competing on Sunday once again.
