The Dallas Cowboys are in prime position to take one of the top quarterback prospects in the 2021 NFL Draft
This season was supposed to be Super Bowl or bust for the Dallas Cowboys. Unfortunately for “America’s Team,” it’s been a bust. Their defense has been porous from the start, but at least they had quarterback Dak Prescott to keep them in games. All hopes they had of salvaging their campaign went down the drain after Prescott suffered a grotesque ankle-dislocation, thus ending his season. At 2-7, the Cowboys are on pace to hold a top five selection in the 2021 NFL Draft and put them in prime position to take a quarterback. But should they do it? A legendary Cowboys signal caller has some thoughts.
While speaking with Jori Epstein of USA Today Sports, Hall of Famer Troy Aikman expressed his belief that the Cowboys won’t tank their season for Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence and followed up by saying he doesn’t think the Cowboys need to take a quarterback at all.

Aikman a firm believer in Dak
Aikman isn’t saying anything that the Jones family hasn’t said already — Prescott is there guy for the foreseeable future.
Through the first four weeks of the season, Prescott was statistically the best quarterback in the league. He was making up for Dallas’ lack of defensive prowess by literally putting the entire team on his back. But during their Week 5 contest against the rival New York Giants, Prescott was tackled the wrong way, resulting in a heartbreaking injury. His season ended with 1,856 yards, nine touchdowns and four interceptions.
Upon Prescott’s devastating injury, many were fearful that it cost the quarterback a lucrative, longterm deal that he rightfully deserved. But in recent interviews, owner Jerry Jones and general manager Stephen Jones expressed confidence that the team will be able to retain Prescott. While sitting on the sidelines would normally hurt his stock, it actually helped him, as the Cowboys had to trot out Andy Dalton, Ben DiNucci and Garrett Gilbert at quarterback, to little success.
Aikman is correct in his assessment — quarterback is the lowest position of need on the team’s totem pole. Regardless of where the Cowboys finish in the draft order, they should be targeting an edge rusher, cornerback or offensive lineman. You have Prescott, now pay him.
