814. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. S. Georgia Bulldogs. Richard LeCounte III. 3. player

The most interesting player to watch on the Georgia roster from a draft standpoint is standout safety Richard LeCounte III. What is he at the next level and how will his game translate? What made LeCounte a five-star coming out of high school are have we have seen on fall Saturdays for some time. He is technically sound in coverage and is the vocal leader of this Georgia secondary.

Though LeCounte is a willing tackler, this is not his strength as a playmaker. Where he is proficient are with his ball skills and him rarely being out of position. Though he lacks the prototypical size, speed and strength you would normally love to see out of a safety, LeCounte plays with a rare chip on his shoulder, despite his lofty recruiting status coming out of high school. This will serve him.

While LeCounte has made plays for Georgia this year, people will look back on the targeting penalty vs. the Auburn Tigers, as well as the motorcycle accident on Halloween after beating the Kentucky Wildcats in Lexington. LeCounte is too good to not be drafted, but he’s not going in the first round and is probably closer to a day-three selection than a day-two pick. But there is allure.

LeCounte is too football savvy to not have staying power in the league, as long as he has his health. His nose for the football is reminiscent of Charles Tillman, though he does not have the “Peanut Punch”. Then again, who does? Ultimately, if you want to cross LeCounte off, do so at your  own risk. Do not be shocked if LeCounte ends up a Pro Bowler after being a fourth-round pick.
