As he continues a pipeline of Georgia running backs, Zamir White has a scoring streak that puts him atop SEC running backs this season.

The Georgia Bulldogs had at least one 1,000-yard rusher in six straight seasons heading into 2020. With the departure of De’Andre Swift to the NFL, Zamir White was next in line as he looked to put ACL tears in his senior year of high school and his freshman season behind him.

White was the No. 1 running back recruit in the 2018 class, and a top-10 overall prospect in the class. He was Georgia’s third-leading rusher last year (408 yards; 5.2 yards per carry), and he ended on a high note against Baylor in the Sugar Bowl (18 carries for 92 yards and a touchdown).

Georgia’s game against Missouri on Saturday has been cancelled, so White will not be in action. He’s third in the SEC in rushing right now (509 yards), with back-to-back 100-yard games. A 75-yard touchdown run helped him get there in a loss to Florida last week, as he only has seven carries.

But White was able to continue his scoring streak to start the season.

White is the only SEC running back to score in every game this year, with seven touchdowns in six games. Going back to last year, his touchdown streak is at seven games. With that, he’s entering elite company among Bulldogs’ running backs.

Zamir White is nearing a Georgia scoring record

The Georgia record for consecutive games with a rushing touchdown is 10, shared by Hershel Walker and Nick Chubb. Walker also had streaks of seven and eight games in his three-year career. White has already surpassed the best career scoring streaks of backs like Todd Gurley and Knowshon Moreno.

With the issues Georgia has had at quarterback this year, it’s easy to criticize White’s lack of usage. One-sided losses to Alabama and Florida led to him totaling just 17 carries in those games. He has 19 or more carries in three of the other four games (over 20 in two), albeit with just four receptions (one over the last four games).

After the early part of his career started slowly, health and opportunity have opened the door for White. He has literally and figuratively run through the door, and already put himself among the elite company at “Running Back U”.
