Move over Mac Jones and Justin Fields, Kyle Trask is the undisputed Heisman Trophy leader
By John Buhler
Florida football star quarterback Kyle Trask has made his charge and is now the front-runner for the 2020 Heisman Trophy.
Move over Mac Jones, Justin Fields and Trevor Lawrence. There’s a new Heisman leader with Florida quarterback Kyle Trask moving past the competition with an onslaught on the SEC record books.
Trask was tabbed as the best quarterback in the SEC at the start of the season. Though Alabama’s Jones has played phenomenally too, it has been the Gators quarterback who has taken the 2020 Heisman Trophy driver’s seat away from the Tuscaloosa signal-caller. Trask’s games vs. the Georgia Bulldogs and the Arkansas Razorbacks were too good to ignore
Kyle Trask would be the fourth Florida quarterback to win the Heisman Trophy
Through the first five games of the season, Trask completed 68.7 percent of his passes for 1,815 yards, 22 touchdowns and only three interceptions. His performance vs. Georgia was his best of the year up to that point. He completed 30-of-43 passes for 474 yards, four touchdowns and a pick vs. the Gators’ huge SEC East rival Georgia. Then, the Arkansas game happened for Trask.
In the first half vs. the Hogs, Trask completed 18-of-22 passes for 285 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions. Trask is the only SEC quarterback to have four-plus touchdowns in the first six games. Not even Joe Burrow did that last year. Keep in mind he did that against the team being quarterback by his former teammate Feleipe Franks.
With Jones, Fields and Lawrence off this week, it was Trask who didn’t just have a Heisman statement, he had a Heisman exclamation that left no doubt about who is the new favorite to win the 2020 Heisman Trophy.
