NBA Offseason 2020: 5 potential landing spots for Hassan Whiteside
By Mike Luciano
The Clippers are in the middle of a serious facelift, as Sixth Man of the Year Montrezl Harrell will likely bolt for more lucrative options in free agency. Ivica Zubac has a role in the NBA, but starting center on a team that is expected to take down LeBron James and Anthony Davis in the playoffs is asking too much. With Kawhi Leonard and Paul George giving the Clippers one of the best combinations of wings in the league, Ty Lue’s squad needs some extra muscle down low to replace Harrell, and Whiteside could be the man for the job if LA can find enough money.
Harrell is one of the better offensive bigs in the league, but his defense was incredibly suspect. Whiteside can give the Clippers adequate or above-average offensive production while giving them an intimidating interior presence that could make it tough for James and stars of his ilk to drive to the lane. Sitting around and doing nothing will be killer for the Clippers, but getting a player of his caliber could help make the Clippers’ conference favorites.
