Patrick Mahomes is now the betting favorite to take home his second NFL MVP Award.

The Kansas City Chiefs are cruising along at 8-1 this season and to the surprise of no one, Patrick Mahomes looks to have gotten even better. If that is still possible.

Mahomes has thrown 25 touchdowns and only one interception in nine games this season. No other starting quarterback can claim that type of efficiency and it is why Mahomes is now the betting favorite to be named the NFL MVP in 2020.

Patrick Mahomes does face some tough competition for the MVP

The hero of Kansas City does still face some legitimate competition en route to his second MVP. Russell Wilson tops that list and has thrown for more yards and more touchdowns than Mahomes so far this year. However, he also has 10 interceptions. Seven of those have come in his past four games and Wilson could end up hurting his team even further as the season goes on.

Aaron Rodgers is behind Wilson in terms of odds and is a more legitimate comparison to Mahomes as the Green Bay signal-caller has 26 touchdowns and only three interceptions. The two are close in passing yards as well and if this pace keeps up it will be Rodgers, and not Wilson, serving as Mahomes’ top competition.

Mahomes also has the benefit of guiding the offense of what appears to be the best team in football. Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers do have a better record at 9-0, but projecting Mahomes’ current stats over a full season has him finishing ahead of Big Ben in every important category.

Mahomes is still only 25 years old and could end up being a two-time MVP by the end of the season. There truly appears to be no limit to what he can do and placing a bet on the star quarterback seems like a safe financial move.
