These college football teams are on upset alert this week as the top 25-ranked teams draw matchups in Week 12 that could give them a surprise loss.

After a week in which Clemson, Alabama and Ohio State were all out of action, among numerous other Power 5 teams, the college football slate in Week 12 is much more enticing for fans to dive into. And with that, we’re ready to look through the top-25 ranked teams in the country and put them on upset alert this week.

Some ranked teams avoid getting put on upset alert, however, for one reason or another. Texas A&M’s potentially tricky matchup against explosive Ole Miss has been postponed while the Auburn-Tennessee matchup no longer looks as tricky for the Tigers as it once did given the recent struggles for the Vols.

But that’s enough about teams who aren’t in danger of losing in Week 12. You came here to see which top 25 teams could go down and that’s what we’ve got. We’re putting these five college football teams on upset alert this week and they better beware.

College football upset alert No. 5: Coastal Carolina Chanticleers

Rank: 15 | Opponent: Appalachian State Mountaineers | Time: Saturday, Nov. 21, Noon ET

While it feels like a large number of fans throughout the country are aware of Group of 5 teams such as BYU, Cincinnati and even Liberty going unbeaten to this point, Coastal Carolina is the quietest undefeated team in college football for the 2020 season. The Chanticleers are off to a 7-0 start and have actually climbed inside the top 15 of the latest rankings.

But after their game against Troy last week was postponed, Coastal Carolina now enters one of their two toughest matchups of the season as they welcome the reigning Sun Belt champs, the Appalachian State Mountaineers, to Conway, SC on Saturday afternoon. And this should be a wildly entertaining affair.

Some people are likely fading App State considering they already have a loss on the season and that they only won by four points over a mediocre Georgia State team last week. But the Mountaineers also know the stakes of this game on Saturday and it’s just as likely that the team was simply caught looking ahead to playing Coastal Carolina.

That not only means that they are focused on upsetting the Chanticleers this week but App State also has the talent to do it. Zac Thomas is a veteran quarterback who is more than talented and the Mountaineers have a balance with their offensive/defensive prowess that largely mirrors that of their Week 12 opponents.

Frankly, this is a toss-up in the Sun Belt that should be a ton of fun to watch — but that also means that an upset is very much in play.
