College football upset alert, Week 12: Ohio State, USC among 5 teams in danger of losing
College football upset alert No. 4: USC Trojans
Rank: 20 | Opponent: Utah Utes | Time: Saturday, Nov. 21, 10:30 p.m. ET
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before but the USC Trojans came into the 2020 college football season with some optimism that this would be the year that they could get over a hump and potentially push for a spot in the Playoff. Instead, they’ve come out in their first two games and gotten wins but in a wholly unimpressive fashion.
After beating Arizona State and Arizona by a combined five points to start the year, suffice it to say that Kedon Slovis and the rest of Clay Helton’s Trojans aren’t winning any popularity contests right now. Granted, the quarterback does not appear to be 100 percent healthy right now but, even then, you would expect the overall talent of the Trojans roster to show up better than they have to this point.
That makes a road trip to Salt Lake City late on Saturday night all the more tricky. The truth is that we don’t know what to make of Utah in the 2020 season for the simple fact that the Utes have yet to play a game this season. But even with the losses this program suffered, we know that they are well-coached and have been a consistent group taking the field.
The same can’t be said of USC. They’ve looked prone to an upset in their first two games of the season and, even though they enter Week 12 at 2-0 on the year, nothing they’ve done to this point suggests that they shouldn’t be put on upset alert once again. The way they’ve performed certainly hints that it’s coming sooner rather than later.
