Cam Newton of the New England Patriots yells in celebration in the rain from the sideline of the game between the New England Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens at Gillette Stadium on Nov. 15, 2020, in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

The Baltimore Ravens were favored to win their matchup against the New England Patriots last Sunday. The Patriots have had a disappointing season in comparison to the years of success with previous quarterback Tom Brady leading the team to AFC Championship games and Super Bowl titles year after year. However, the Patriots came out fighting, led by the energetic veteran quarterback Cam Newton. Rain fell from the sky for the majority of the game, picking up tremendously in the fourth quarter. As the Patriots solidified their lead, securing the upset, I hung behind their bench to look for Newton’s reaction. As the clock wound down to zero he let out a yell and his signature smile seen in this photo.

Dustin Johnson of the United States reacts on the 18th green after winning the Masters at Augusta National Golf Club on Nov. 15, 2020, in Augusta, Georgia.

The Masters is a tradition like no other. It is a throwback in time to generations ago when the purity of sport prevailed. This year’s tournament felt very different. It was really strange to walk around one of the most hallowed places in all of golf, ropes usually packed 20 deep with faithful patrons, and cover the tournament with barely a witness. This image was taken the moment after Dustin Johnson made his final putt to win the tournament. There were a few hundred masked club members, or guests of members, surrounding the 18th green, but their cheers were nowhere near as loud as the roars of years past. It was indeed a strange sight to see. Dustin Johnson, however, was truly a deserving champion with a record-setting 20 under par score to capture his first green jacket.

Race winner Lewis Hamilton of Great Britain and Mercedes GP celebrates winning a 7th F1 World Drivers Championship in parc ferme during the F1 Grand Prix of Turkey at Intercity Istanbul Park on Nov. 15, 2020, in Istanbul, Turkey.

I’ve fortunately been present for all seven of Lewis Hamilton’s F1 World Championship winning races. I was aware that this was going to be arguably the most historic win for him, but the unpredictability of his actions in these moments still take me by surprise. I was anticipating the typical winning moment of the champion leaping from his car after the win. However, on this occasion, Hamilton sat in his car, helmet on, in tears of disbelief that he had equaled a record that no one had thought was possible, totaling seven wins. Upon his emergence from the car, he stood aloft, raised his hands and my position allowed me to frame the picture in such a way to include the winner’s board at the nose of the car. Still half-expecting the ‘jump’ I waited and hoped he’d leap my way, ready for it this time, but this time he simply stepped down and ran to his jubilant team.
