Greg Olsen post inspirational message to fans following tough injury

The Seattle Seahawks tight end won’t be calling it a career yet. 

Although Greg Olsen could call it a career, he’s not ready. Instead, the Seahawks starting tight end is hoping to rebound following a scary injury on Thursday night.

The veteran pass-catcher left Thursday night’s 28-21 victory over the Arizona Cardinals on the cart near the start of the third quarter. According to Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, Olsen suffered a fascia tear in his foot and will be placed on the injured reserve.

When asked about a potential return this season, Carroll stated his status was still up in the air long-term.

“I don’t know that yet,” Carroll said, according to the Seahawks official website. “There’s been some marvelous returns for guys who do rupture their fascia that would blow you away. Here right now, he’s really in a lot of discomfort and all that, but we’ll see what happens.”

Following the prognosis, Olsen to to social media, letting fans of his and the 12th Man know that his story in the NFL is far from over.

Olsen hopes to return before the postseason

Olsen, 35, signed a one-year, $7 million deal after spending the past nine seasons as a member of the Carolina Panthers. One of the more well-known players at the position, age has certainly begun to catch up with him over the past few seasons with multiple foot injures.

Before his departure Thursday, Olsen tallied two catches for 20 yards. For the season, he has 23 receptions for 224 yards and one touchdown. It’s expected that Will Dissly and Jacob Hollister will take his place for the remainder of the regular season.

One of the top tight ends of the 2010s, it’s clear Olsen will be remembered for his grit and tenacity to give it his all each season. And while Canton might never call his name, fans of Olsen will always remember his reliable hands that helped transform Cam Newton into one of the most fascinating quarterbacks to ever grace the gridiron.

If this is the end though, at least fans can be excited to see him back in the booth full-time with FOX for years to come.
