Unfortunately, the SEC officials got in the way of the LSU-Arkansas game.

A controversial targeting call ultimately led to LSU football getting the road upset over Arkansas football.

Sam Pittman’s Arkansas Razorbacks were leading Ed Orgeron’s LSU Tigers late on Saturday in Fayetteville before the refs ruined things. Up 24-20, Hogs safety Jalen Catalon was ejected for targeting on LSU wide receiver Kayshon Boutte. LSU went on to score the game-winning touchdown seven plays later. While Arkansas had a chance to tie it with a last-minute field goal, it was short after it was blocked by the Tigers.

Once again, SEC officials got in the way of yet another conference game

Given that this is a huge rivalry game between Arkansas and LSU, we knew the Bayou Bengals would give their best effort, despite it being a down season for the program. Then again, they may have just been ready to play, as the Tigers had not been on the field since Halloween. Either way, the Hogs may have gotten hosed by this targeting call. The rule must be re-evaluated for 2021.

Though Arkansas is vastly improved over a season ago, the Hogs are only 3-5 on the year. Frankly, Pittman’s team should be 5-3 this season, or at the very least 4-4 because the SEC officials absolutely handed the Auburn Tigers a victory over the Hogs early in the season. Regardless, it is never great to lose, but it is even worse when you feel like the officials were the reason for it.

While LSU gets the win, it feels more like refs ripping a W away from Arkansas than anything.
