In a pivotal matchup in the Big 12, the Bedlam Series hits center stage as the Oklahoma State Cowboys go on the road to take on the Oklahoma Sooners.

The Big 12’s chances at making The College Football Playoff have taken some big hits since the season began. Following some disappointing season-opening performances, two of the favorites to win the conference, Oklahoma and Texas, found themselves both sitting at 2-2 and unranked. This left Oklahoma State as the best chance for the conference to make the playoffs, but three weeks later, the Cowboys lost their first game of the season coming at the hands of the Texas Longhorns.

The Cowboys currently sit in the No. 2 spot in the conference standings, just a half-game behind Iowa State. The Sooners, on the other hand, are sitting in fourth place, behind those two and Kansas State, who has the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Sooners. And right behind all of that craziness are the Longhorns.

Despite all of this, The Bedlam Series can still be crucial for the Big 12 and their playoff chances. If Oklahoma State wins, then their hopes of making the playoffs are still alive — barely, but still alive. If Oklahoma wins, barring a miracle of other conferences collapsing, the Big 12 would have zero chance to make the playoffs. However, a win by the Sooners would help them get back into contention in playing in the conference title game, with a four-way tie between them, the Longhorns, the Cowboys and the Wildcats. Meanwhile, a Cowboys win would put them into first place in the conference standings, holding a tiebreaker over the Cyclones.

So what does Bedlam have in store for us? Will the Cowboys take control and keep their playoff hopes alive? Or will the Sooners continue their hot streak and propel themselves on game closer to another Big 12 title?

Prediction: Despite both defenses playing pretty well this season, there is going to be plenty of offense in this one. Sooners quarterback Spencer Rattler has been playing much better in their three-game win streak and should carry that success into this one. Chubba Hubbard, one of the best running backs in all of college football, takes on a stingy Sooner run defense that is allowing less than 100 yards a game thus far. This will be a back-and-forth affair, and while the offenses lead the show, it is the Sooners’ defense that makes a huge stop to seal the victory … and the conference’s playoff fate.

Score: Oklahoma 45, Oklahoma State 41
