Can the Panthers survive with Teddy Bridgewater?
On merit alone, the Detroit Lions aren’t out of the playoff hunt just yet. Sitting at 4-5, a win will bring them back to .500 and could be enough to cement their status as a dark horse in the NFC wild card race. To do that, they’ll need to get back the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
The Panthers will be playing short-handed without the likes of Teddy Bridgewater. Last week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the former Saint star suffered a knee injury that kept him out of practice for most of the week. In his place, former XFL super phenom PJ Walker will get the start.
Carolina also will be without a significant run game as well. Christian McCaffery isn’t expected to suit up following a setback with his leg injury suffered in Week 2. Mike Davis has been serviceable, but still isn’t at the same pedigree as the former No.8 overall pick.
Detroit will need to find ways to win in the passing attack without two essential pass catchers. Wide receiver Kenny Golladay will be out once again after dealing with a leg injury while running back D’Andre Swift is expected to miss this week as well. Swift suffered a concussion last week against the Washington Football Team and has been vital as a check down option for Matthew Stafford.
