Raiders bench flagged for yelling at refs to penalize the Chiefs

The Las Vegas Raiders were penalized for yelling at the referees for missing a hold on the Kansas City Chiefs.
There was a ton of animosity entering the Week 11 edition of Sunday Night Football between the Las Vegas Raiders and the Kansas City Chiefs. The Raiders pulled off the upset victory earlier this season, and the Chiefs were miffed about the team taking “victory laps” around the parking lot of Arrowhead Stadium. It became quite obvious that both teams wanted to win their final meeting of the season badly and the emotions were at an all-time high.
That was evident in the second quarter. With the Raiders on Kansas City’s one-yard line, quarterback Derek Carr targeted rookie receiver Bryan Edwards in the end zone, who dropped the ball after being held by cornerback Charvarius Ward. A flag was thrown, but it was towards the Raiders for unsportsmanlike conduct. Why? Well, the bench was yelling at the referees to throw a flag for pass interference!
Raiders learned to be careful what you ask for
The Raiders wanted a flag and the officiating crew gave them one, but not for the reason they wanted. That penalty was costly, because the Raiders were knocked back 15-yards and it prevented them from potentially going for a touchdown on fourth-down. Instead, they settled on a 35-yard field goal by Daniel Carlson to give Las Vegas the 17-14 lead entering halftime.
Las Vegas came to play to pull off the season-sweep of the Chiefs. Perhaps the biggest star of the first half was Carr, who completed 13 of his first 16 pass attempts of the game for 183 yards and one touchdown, which came in the first quarter after targeting former Philadelphia Eagles receiver and underrated free agency signing Nelson Agholor.
If the Raiders learned a lesson, it’s to talk to the referees in a calm manner. Sure, they were hosed out of an easy holding call, but they have to take deep breaths to avoid screaming at the referees and to use clean language. Because we’ve now learned that doing so, specifically from the bench, will cost your team some yardage.
