Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Los Angeles Angels. player. AL. West. 2.. 102

The Los Angeles Angels are an obvious fit for Snell because, well, they need starting pitching desperately.

This is an Angels organization that has prioritized bringing superstar outfielder Mike Trout back to the postseason. They accomplished that feat in 2014 as the top seed in the AL, but were swept by the Kansas City Royals in the Divisional Series. This organization has yet to return to fall baseball because they’ve neglected adding quality, top-tier options to their pitching rotation. Instead, general manager Billy Eppler opted to add top sluggers to the team with the hope of the Angels out-hitting the competition. That strategy failed every single season, resulting in Eppler’s dismissal at the end of the 2020 campaign.

The Angels will no doubt try to be at the top of the bidding war for former Cincinnati Reds ace and defending NL Cy Young winner in Trevor Bauer. However, they face a ton of competition, specifically from the New York Mets. Even if the Angels can’t land a commitment from Bauer, they should still make a run for Snell, because their rotation is not up to snuff entering the 2021 season. As of this writing, the Angels only have three starting pitchers on their roster: Dylan Bundy, Andrew Heaney and Griffin Canning.

Expect new general manager Perry Minasian, former assistant general manager for the Braves, to make a run for Snell, because the Angels are in win-now mode.
