Per MLB insider Ken Rosenthal, the Astros are considering trading away Carlos Correa, which would be a ridiculous decision.

In what’s been a tough year emotionally for the Houston Astros and their fans, and rightfully so following their sign-stealing scandal, perhaps even more big-time news could be on the way those in Houston aren’t going to like.

That’s because according to MLB insider Ken Rosenthal, the Houston front office is actually considering trading away superstar slugger Carlos Correa. What in the world? If this were to happen, there’d be a large meltdown of folks right outside of MinuteMaid Park.

The Astros must be joking in considering trading away Carlos Correa

Seriously, what would the team be thinking in making this decision? Per Rosenthal, the team still has interest in DJ LaMahieu, but making a move to land him would depend on whether or not they send Correa to a new city, with Alex Bregman moving over to shortstop in the process.

Correa is in the last year of his current contract. In one way, potentially trading him this offseason could make sense, especially if the team isn’t confident that they’d be able to keep him in town with a huge new contract before he enters free agency. Once he’s a free agent, teams are going to be lining up to try and get him in their jersey.

Houston, if it’s smart, should do everything possible to make sure he doesn’t leave. Fans love him, he’s known for sending the ball to the moon and he’s outstanding defensively. What else needs to be said?

Only time will tell what Correa’s future holds, but the idea of the Astros trading him in the near future just seems puzzling.
