2. Detroit Tigers

The Tigers are still a few years away from contending, but the addition of AJ Hinch at manager perhaps speeds up their rebuilding plan slightly. Could a Hinch-Correa reunion be in the cards in Detroit?

Al Avila hasn’t been willing to deal any of his top prospects to speed up the rebuild thus far, and it would take some convincing from Hinch to change that plan. Tigers ownership would also need to commit to signing Correa long-term to make any acquisition worthwhile.

Detroit’s infield of the future is rather meek, so Correa would have a spot to play long-term at shortstop with little to no competition. Houston would probably demand Casey Mize at first, with Avila hanging up the phone in the process. However, a package centered around one of Tarik Skubal or Matt Manning could be enough to pry Correa away from Crane’s grasp.

Convincing top-end free agent to come to Detroit has always been a challenge in any sports. Baseball is no different, but if the Tigers can add Correa via trade and show him the money, he’d immediately be the face of a quickly-rebuilding franchise built in a similar mold to his Astros that won the World Series in 2017, minus trash can bangs.
