Soccer legend Diego Maradona has died at the age of 60

Soccer legend Diego Maradona has died at the age of 60.

News broke early Wednesday revealing that Argentinian soccer legend, Diego Maradona, had died. According to the Daily Mail, he died at his home of a cardiac arrest. He was treated for a brain blood clot earlier this month and it was announced he was seeking treatment for alcohol dependency. He was 60 years old.

Maradona was arguably one of the greatest soccer players of all time with the highlight of his career being team captain when Argentina won the 1986 World Cup. During that year he also produced some of his own highlight reel moments including his “Hand of God” goal, which eliminated the Three Lions from the tournament.

Diego Maradona struggled with cocaine use

Unfortunately, Maradona also suffered from vices, including cocaine. He was given a 15-month suspension for violating drug regulations in 1991 and was removed 1994 World Cup after testing positive for ephedrine.

He spent his career playing for Barcelona and Napoli during his club career, winning two Serie A titles with the Italian side. His career last 21 years and he retired from competition in 1997.
