Alabama-LSU football game rescheduled for December as SEC shuffles schedules
The Alabama and LSU football game is expected to be rescheduled for next week, Saturday, Dec. 5.
Nearly one month after the Alabama football game vs. LSU was postponed due to the coronavirus spreading among the Tigers, the game between the two SEC rivals will be played on Dec. 5, according to Yahoo!’s Pete Thamel.
The game was to be played on Nov. 8 but LSU was severely impacted by players in quarantine or testing positive with COVID. On top of the injuries incurred by LSU, they still wanted to play the game before the SEC intervened and delayed the game.
At the time there were whispers that LSU was ducking Alabama because Ed Orgeron’s Tigers were in a bad spot and likely to take an ugly loss. That was, of course, rubbish, and Coach O’s team wanted to play Alabama anywhere, anytime.
LSU-Alabama to be rescheduled for Dec. 5
Now, they’ll get their chance next Saturday.
And now, it’s Alabama who could be sorely affected by COVID.
Alabama head coach Nick Saban will miss Saturday’s Iron Bowl game vs. Auburn after testing positive for the coronavirus, which was revealed on Wednesday morning.
If he’s not available to coach, offensive coordinator will serve as the head coach for a second straight week.
Rescheduling LSU-Alabama for Dec. 5 means there will be some shuffling among the remaining schedules for these teams and those affected by the accommodation.
- Alabama: LSU (Dec. 5), Arkansas (Dec. 12)
- LSU: Alabama (Dec. 5), Florida (Dec. 12), Ole Miss (Dec. 19)
- Ole Miss: Open week (Dec. 5), Texas A&M (Dec. 12), LSU (Dec. 19)
The games on Dec. 19 will serve as the appetizers to the main course that day being the SEC Championship Game which is expected to be Alabama vs. Florida with College Football Playoff implications on the line for both.
Should Alabama win that game, they’ll undoubtedly lock themselves in as the No. 1 seed.
However, if Florida pulls off the upset, the Gators will play their way into the four-team field and Alabama likely falls from No. 1 to No. 4, so the SEC will get two teams in.
