Sam Ehlinger couldn’t endorse Tom Herman after Texas lost to Iowa State and the writing may be on the wall for a coaching change coming in Austin.

Tom Herman may be on the way out as the Texas football head coach after botching the game vs. Iowa State and his quarterback, Sam Ehlinger, not endorsing him.

“That’s the million-dollar question everybody’s trying to figure out the last 10 years, Ehlinger said after Texas lost 23-20 to Iowa State.”

Herman’s failed fake punt and decision to go for it on 4th down and 1 from the ISU 13 instead of kicking a field goal to take a seven-point lead with eight minutes remaining may have sealed Herman’s fate.

Tom Herman lost the support of Sam Ehlinger and may now lose his job

The fans of Texas football have already soured on Herman who has a hefty buyout but that won’t stop Texas from making a move if it’s deemed necessary.

It was known Herman wasn’t the guy for the job after Texas lost to Kansas and there hasn’t been any positive momentum to suggest anything will be different. With big losses on the recruiting trail such as the decommitment of top quarterback recruit Quinn Ewers, Herman is racking up losses on and off the field.

While Texas football may have outsized expectations and expect to compete annually for national championships despite a history that would suggest that, what’s clear is that Herman just hasn’t been good enough.

Herman acknowledged earlier this month he’s heard the whispers about the Urban Meyer rumors and after the Iowa State game admitted it’s not his decision whether he keeps his job but thinks he’s put the program in a better spot than what he inherited when he took over for Charlie Strong.
