Syracuse fell to NC State under the most comedically sad circumstances as the quarterback spiked the ball on fourth down for a turnover on downs to end the game.

What’s the worst thing a quarterback can do in an end-of-game situation?

Allow Syracuse’s Rex Culpepper to demonstrate.

Spiking the ball on fourth down is as embarrassing a play as there is. It doesn’t help that Culpepper brought it on himself.

On third down, he made another huge error by taking a sack and allowing the clock to continue ticking down. Hence the rush to get back to the line and the grave mistake that followed.

The sad thing is Culpepper put the Orange in position to tie the game in the first place. Syracuse went 57 yards in 15 plays on the drive. They needed a touchdown and an extra point to tie NC State and take the game into overtime.

Those last two were just horrendous game management.

Syracuse football is 1-9 for a reason

It hasn’t been a happy season for Dino Babers and the Orange. The loss to NC State dropped them to 1-9 on the season. They had the upper hand against the Wolfpack too.

Syracuse too a 22-14 lead into halftime and led 29-27 going into the fourth quarter. However, they allowed the last 16 points from NC State to go unanswered.

Culpepper had 254 yards and two touchdowns on the day, while receiver Taj Harris had a huge outing with 13 catches for 146 yards and a score. However, Syracuse had no run game to speak of with leading rusher Sean Tucker managing 18 yards on 16 carries.

NC State quarterback Bailey Hockman tossed four touchdowns to go along with his 313 yards while leading his team’s comeback.

The Wolfpack are now 7-3 while enjoying a three-game winning streak. They handed Liberty their first loss of the year last week.
