Patrick Mahomes and Mecole Hardman have hilarious Twitter banter after beating Bucs

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes couldn’t believe he missed a wide open Mecole Hardman during Sunday’s win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Even though they hold the second-seed in the AFC, the Kansas City Chiefs sure do look like the favorites to win the Super Bowl 12 weeks into the 2020 season. In a highly-anticipated contest against the Tom Brady-led Tampa Bay Buccaneers, quarterback Patrick Mahomes had yet another impressive performance on the gridiron. Mahomes picked apart the porous Buccaneers secondary, mostly by targeting receiver Tyreek Hill, to lead the Chiefs to a 27-24 win. Even so, something was irking Mahomes.

Following the game, Mahomes tweeted that he couldn’t believe he missed a wide open Mecole Hardman in the middle of the field on what would have been an 89-yard touchdown. Hardman, being the gracious teammate he is, replied to Mahomes and took the blame for the dropped pass, as the throw barely tipped off his fingertips.

Despite miss, a win’s a win

While the two were jokingly lamenting about the blown touchdown, they can take solace in the fact that Kansas City left the Sunshine State with the “W.” Sure, the extra touchdown would’ve been awesome, but the past is the past.

Mahomes was nearly unstoppable through the air on Sunday afternoon, as he completed 37 of his 49 pass attempts for a staggering 462 yards and three touchdowns, all going to the speedy Hill. Mahomes also broke a record, as his 359 passing yards in the first half were the most by a quarterback since Drew Brees posted 346 back on Nov. 7, 2004.

As for Hardman, he hauled in three of his five targets for 23 yards. The second-year receiver hasn’t scored a touchdown since Week 8 against the New York Jets.

Since the Chiefs won, both Mahomes and Hardman can look back and joke about their failed connection on a would-be uncontested touchdown. If Kansas City ended up on the losing end, let’s face it, there would be no tweets from either player. Just saying.
