With the Boston Red Sox hoping to make some big improvements this offseason, signing Jon Lester feels like a no-brainer.

As Boston fans know, the 2020 campaign was simply one to forget for the Red Sox. The AL East powerhouse finished in dead last of the division, giving Yankees fans everywhere countless amount of material for insults.

This offseason, the club is looking to completely turn things around. They’ve of course already decided to bring back Alex Cora as manager, but that alone isn’t going to get the job done. So how about adding a starting pitcher who’s loved by the fan base? That’s exactly what they can do if they sign lefty Jon Lester.

The Boston Red Sox shouldn’t think twice in signing Jon Lester

Lester’s brilliant career started all the way back in 2006. Can you guess which team he suited up for first? Yup, the Boston Red Sox. Lester has since suited up for other organizations, most recently the Chicago Cubs.

However, the wily ol’ veteran is entering free agency this offseason and is looking for a club to call home. Why not head back to where his long run started? While Lester has left the door open to potentially return to the Cubs, he already somewhat said goodbye, spending $47,000 on beers for fans in the city in case he doesn’t return.

While he’s climbing in age (he’s now 36), Lester still has plenty left in the tank. This past season, he went 3-3. He’s no stranger to Fenway Park too, as he was a multi-time All-Star with the club, spending more than seven seasons to start his MLB days with Boston.

While multiple teams have shown interest in Lester, a reunion with the Red Sox could be a great story. Let’s see if the Boston front office makes a great move here.

Next. Hey Chicago, your next beer is on Jon Lester. dark
