5 replacements for Doug Pederson as Eagles head coach
By Mike Luciano
When Josh Allen came into the league, he was hideously inaccurate and looked more like a tight end playing quarterback. In just a few seasons under Daboll, who has experience under Bill Belichick in New England and Nick Saban at Alabama, Allen has become a hyper-efficient quarterback that ranks among the league’s most productive. The Eagles have holes on their roster, but this is not completely bereft of talent, and Wentz’s hideous drop-off in quality is more detrimental to the Eagles than anything else. Daboll would be a major step in helping fix him.
Daboll likes to throw the ball 40 times a game, and that perceived inability to use a quality running back like Sanders effectively has been a valid criticism of Pederson this season. If Wentz’s mechanical and cerebral issues aren’t fixed, that could be problematic. However, Daboll has proven to be quite innovative and able to maximize the productivity of marginal players and stars alike on the offensive end, and his touch is exactly what the vanilla Eagles offense needs right now.
