5 replacements for Doug Pederson as Eagles head coach
By Mike Luciano
Eagles fans might be having Chip Kelly PTSD whenever a top college coach is mentioned as a potential head coach. However, the recent success of Matt Rhule and Kliff Kingsbury might have Eagles fans open to this idea, as Campbell’s success at an Iowa State program that has no right to be anywhere near the Big 12’s elite could get the NFL interested. While the Jets were interested in Campbell before their committed football seppuku and hired Adam Gase, Campbell might be tempted to leave this time around, as the Eagles could provide him with a much deeper roster.
Both at Toledo and Iowa State, Campbell has taken stagnant programs, injected his unique brand of offense into them, and helped them contend for conference titles. Far from just a quarterback whisperer, Campbell produced David Montgomery and has the nation’s second-leading rusher in Breece Hall on his team right now, showing that he could bring a more balanced attack to Philadelphia.
The Eagles need to get Wentz sorted out, find more balance on offense, and rally this team to compete in a very winnable division, and Campbell could help them check all of those boxes when he arrives in Philly.
