The NFL Playoffs are right around the corner. Keep a close eye on these 5 Week 13 matchups to prepare for the postseason.

COVID-19 continues to wreak havoc with the NFL schedule, but the league is still speeding ahead towards the playoffs in a few weeks. That makes Week 13 a perfect time to pay very close attention to teams that fancy themselves as legitimate Super Bowl contenders.

It is also a perfect time to check in on teams trying to make late pushes to qualify for the postseason. Those franchises start to play with a real sense of separation this time of year. Not coincidentally, that makes for great TV viewing for fans.

As always, this piece will walk through the five most interesting matchups of the weekend. It starts with a high-profile coach who will put his team through hell in practice this week.

5. Raiders try to recover from disaster

Precious few NFL observers saw Las Vegas’ debacle in Week 12 coming. Losing to the Falcons is one thing. Getting blown off the field with a final score of 43-6 is quite another.

This is not the sort of embarrassment that Jon Gruden handles well. He’s going to make this week a nightmare for his squad. Derek Carr, in particular, should prepare to hear loads from his head coach during practice. He also should plan on reading a lot of questions about his play in the media.

The good news for Las Vegas is that they face the hapless Jets on Sunday. This should be a get-well game for the Raiders. If it’s not, heads will roll in Sin City.
