The Mets should have a whole new philosophy with Steve Cohen as the owner. He has shown up and promised to spend big on this team in order to win. Swinging a deal for Story would be a major move that should get fans excited.

The Mets are in a similar position as the Reds. Both teams are linked to Lindor and the Mets may have the upper hand in terms of shelling out whatever it takes for a new contract upon a deal being made. However, it will all come down to what the Indians are offered in return.

Amed Rosario was the primary shortstop for the Mets in 2020 and posted a negative-WAR season. This came after a 2019 season where he looked like a legitimate everyday option, appearing in 157 games and slashing .287/.323/.432.

But things are much different now in Queens. If the Mets have a chance to land a star, Cohen seems like he will instruct his front office to do so. Story should be a priority just like Lindor and the Mets may like the option of a lesser trade package for the Rockies shortstop.

Striking out on Lindor and landing Story would signal a shift for the franchise. While one star would be missed out on, another would be ready to walk through the door.
