SEC officials missed a call that allowed LSU to score a touchdown despite the receiver clearly dropping the ball before crossing the goal line.

Kayshon Boutte dropped the ball before crossing the goal line but the SEC officials took pity on LSU and let the play stand nonetheless. Why? Who knows but the only logical explanation for this illogical decision is that they had their eyes on something else and completely missed the fumble.

The play stood with Jontre Kirklin quickly picking up the fumble so that’s why the SEC officials let the play stand. The official scoring will have to credit Kirklin for the touchdown and Boutte will likely have to run the stadium as a form of punishment so he never does something that dumb again.

Naturally, it didn’t look that good in real-time and Twitter was full of jokes.

Twitter mocks SEC officials for missing apparent LSU fumble on touchdown

In 2020, you’d think players would be wise enough not to drop the ball as a form of celebration. I mean, hasn’t DeSean Jackson taught us all that by now? Heck, aren’t there a multitude of celebrations that are a better way of showing off your personality and exuberance than fumbling? You know, one of the worst things you can do with the ball in your hands?

In any event, Alabama scored like seven seconds later to wipe out that play and LSU faces an uphill battle to make this a respectable outcome for the reigning national champions.
