Derek Carr threw a beautiful pass, allowing rookie Henry Ruggs III to run underneath it for a game-winning touchdown

On a third down with less than 20 seconds remaining, the Raiders threw up a prayer. It was answered in the form of a Ruggs touchdown, as the speedster ran right past the Jets secondary for a last-second touchdown that keeps them in the AFC playoff picture.

The Jets, meanwhile, kept their tank for Trevor movement alive.

How was Ruggs III so open? We don’t have a good answer there. It’s the Jets, either Adam Gase is trying to lose game or they’re the most inept team we’ve ever seen. Perhaps it’s a little bit of both.

Carr did not relent, throwing perhaps his best deep ball of the season and allowing the Alabama product Ruggs III to run underneath it.

The Raiders will take the win, but they have some serious questions to answer

How can the Raiders look capable enough to beat the Chiefs one week, and nearly lose to the winless Jets just a few games later? Your guess is as good as ours, but Jon Gruden cannot be happy with his team right now.

In fact, once the shock factor wears off, Gruden and Co. will have to dissect the gameplan via a ruthless film session come Monday. Thanks to the expanded postseason, the Raiders are still square in the middle of the playoff race in the AFC. However, any performance close to Sunday’s against a decent opponent will end in a lopsided loss.

Playing the Jets is not a worthwhile excuse for a lack of production. The Raiders season is alive, for now.
