If the Chicago Bears end up firing Matt Nagy after the 2020 campaign, the team will reportedly give Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald a look, but there’s no way he heads to town

It’s been another rough year for the Chicago Bears, as the team is 5-7 on the year. Believe it or not, Chicago managed to start off the campaign at 5-1, but they’ve since lost six consecutive games.

It goes without saying, but head coach Matt Nagy is on the hot seat and things have been heating up by the minute. Things just haven’t worked out for him with the Bears and the belief is the front office will part ways with him at the end of the season. Word is they’ll potentially head to the college ranks to give Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald a look.

While he’d be a great hire, the Bears need to get real here. There’s no way he’d want to take over the abysmal situation going on at Soldier Field right now.

The Chicago Bears reportedly have interest in Pat Fitzgerald to be their next head coach

According to NFL insider Jason La Canfora, Chicago would indeed have interest in going after Fitzgerald if they decide Nagy’s time is up leading the team. According to La Canfora’s sources, general manager Ryan Pace and others have grown increasingly frustrated with the team’s performances. That will happen when you’re in the middle of a six-game skid.

At 46 years old, Fitzgerald is in the prime of his coaching career and is passionate about the job he’s doing with Northwestern. In previous years, he’s reportedly received interest from Notre Dame and the Green Bay Packers.

You’re telling us he turned down the potential to coach up Aaron Rodgers, and now he’s going to jump at the opportunity to work with Nick Foles? Yeah, not going to happen. While Fitzgerald would be a tremendous hire, the Bears really are clueless if they think he’ll be joining them.

Fitzgerald is as happy as can be at Northwestern and it doesn’t look like there’s anything that can be done to get him to leave. Sorry Bears fans, you might as well just cross his name off your Christmas list.

Bears might have in-state replacement in mind for Matt Nagy. dark. Next
